PA activists visit DC for lobby day

Activists from the Pennsylvania state association headed to Capitol Hill today to talk about the issues most important to letter carriers with their members of Congress.

The group’s visit was their annual effort to establish continuing relationships with their House and Senate representatives, keeping pressure on them regarding our issues as Congress marks up competing budget resolutions. Among other things, the activists shared with their representatives the importance of upholding the Postal Service’s service standards.

Activists’ discussions also included pressing for three NALC-supported resolutions to preserve six-day mail delivery and door delivery, as well as to maintain service standards.

The activists also spoke about the need for comprehensive postal reform legislation, as outlined by NALC President Fredric Rolando’s testimony before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform this week.

“Members of Congress know who we are thanks in large part because of the momentum we’ve built with them over the years,” Rolando said. “One of the most important things any activist can do to bring the hearts and minds of lawmakers over to our side is to visit them regularly in their D.C. and district offices.”

As Congress prepares for its next recess (May 31-June 3), NALC encourages activists throughout the country to schedule meetings with their members now, to continue beating the drum of support for our issues.
