Today, the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs (HSGAC) Chairman Ron Johnson (R-WI) and Ranking Member Gary Peters (D-MI) announced the members that will serve on the committee’s subcommittees in the 116th Congress.

Of primary concern to NALC, the Subcommittee on Regulatory Affairs and Federal Management (RAFM) oversees the management, efficiency, effectiveness, and economy of all federal government agencies, departments, and programs, including the U.S. Postal Service (USPS).

RAFM Subcommittee

Ron Johnson (R-WI) – Chairman, ex officio

Gary Peters (D-MI) – Ranking Member, ex officio

James Lankford (R-OK) – Chairman

Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) – Ranking Member

Michael B. Enzi (R-WY)

Thomas R. Carper (D-DE)

Rob Portman (R-OH)

Jacky Rosen (D-NV)

Mitt Romney (R-UT)

Rick Scott (R-FL)

Half the Subcommittee are freshmen, including the Ranking Member. Having served for six years in the House of Representatives, Sen. Sinema has a history of supporting letter carriers’ issues and signed onto all four of our priority resolutions in the 115th Congress. In 2018, she ran to fill the seat of retiring former Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ), defeating recently-appointed Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ) for the position.

Sen. Rosen served one term in the House where she signed onto all four of our resolutions and was broadly supportive of letter carriers, before running against and defeating former Sen. Dean Heller (R-NV) in 2018.

Sen. Romney previously served as the governor of Massachusetts from 2003-2007 and ran for the presidency twice, once in 2008 conceding to former Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), and again in 2012 as the Republican party’s nominee when he ultimately lost to President Barack Obama. Following former Sen. Orrin Hatch’s (R-UT) announced retirement, Sen. Romney ran and won the seat of the outgoing senator.

Sen. Scott previously served as the governor of Florida from 2011-2019 and in 2018 ran against former Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL), ultimately defeating him following a recount.
