NALC has arranged for its long-time election contractor, Peake-DeLancey, to handle requests by candidates for national office in the 2014 NALC election to distribute campaign literature by e-mail.

Federal law requires national unions to comply with all reasonable requests by any bona fide candidate for union office to distribute, by mail or otherwise, at the candidate’s expense, campaign literature in aid of such person’s candidacy to all members in good standing of such labor organization.

A recent federal court decision has held that this legal obligation extends to reasonable requests to distribute campaign literature via e-mail. NALC has selected Peake-DeLancey to receive and send by e-mail campaign material submitted by candidates in the upcoming election of NALC officers.

E-mails will be sent to all e-mail addresses in NALC’s existing membership database. However, members will have the option of unsubscribing from receipt of campaign literature before or anytime after distribution of campaign literature begins.

Instructions for opting out will be sent by Peake-DeLancey to all e-mail addresses.

Any candidate(s) wishing to have Peake-Delancey send e-mail campaign literature, at his/her own expense, must contact Tom Patterson at Peake-DeLancey, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time, at 301-341-4600.

Please note that the system will not be available July 14-27, 2014.  No candidate emails will be distributed during that time.

All candidate e-mails must contain a sender e-mail address, a “from” name, and a physical address. Each candidate email will contain a link allowing recipients to unsubscribe from receiving future candidate emails.  Peake-DeLancey will determine the cost of e-mail campaign literature. Payments must be in the form of U.S. Postal Service money order or certified check prior to e-mail transmittance. Peake-DeLancey requires 48-hour advance notice for set-up, preparation and formatting of e-mail campaign literature.
