President Trump has nominated Anthony Lomangino and John LaValle, two Republican nominees, to serve on the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors (BOG).

As a direct result of NALC’s action in the Senate, HSGAC’s text does not include the provision in the House-passed reconciliation bill that would eliminate the Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS) Special Annuity Supplement.

The White House budget calls for eliminating “official time,” and more specifically, “steward time” at the United States Postal Service.

Today, Department of Labor (DOL) Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer testified before the House Committee on Education and the Workforce on the agency’s fiscal year 2026 budget proposal.

The initial legislation contained harmful provisions. Following aggressive lobbying efforts by NALC and the federal employee community, lawmakers removed two provisions.

On April 24, Republican Rep. Dan Newhouse (WA-4) introduced the Shipping Equity Act (H.R. 3011) in the 119th Congress.

Congress has adjourned for spring recess and will not return to Washington, DC, until April 28.

The Public Service Freedom to Negotiate Act (S.1352/H.R.2736) was reintroduced in Congress on April 8.

On March 10, in a 67-32 vote, the Senate confirmed Lori Chavez-DeRemer as the next secretary of labor. 

The Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act (H.R. 20/S. 852) was reintroduced in Congress today.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced that starting this week (Feb. 24, 2025), the agency is beginning to pay retroactive benefits and will increase monthly benefit payments to people who were affected by the (WEP) and (GPO).

Today, President Biden signed the Social Security Fairness Act (H.R. 82) into law, delivering a hard-fought victory for letter carriers and public servants across the nation. 

 The Senate is scheduled to begin consideration of the Social Security Fairness Act (H. R. 82) next week. 

Today, NALC joined other unions at a rally outside of the Capitol to call on the Senate to pass the Social Security Fairness Act (H.R. 82).
